EquaGel Straight Comfort Cushion – Cushion Size 22″ W x 18″ D x 1.75″ H Review

EquaGel Straight Comfort Cushion - Cushion Size 22

The most popular of all the EquaGel® wheelchair seat cushions with skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. It is a flat gel cushion incorporating the two-stage gel configuration. Much of its popularity with nursing and therapy professionals is that it is not dependent upon knowledgeable staff to properly place the gel cushion in a wheelchair – it can be frontwards, backwards or sideways and still perform as designed. While the EquaGel® Straight Comfort Wheelchair Seat Cushion is not coded for Medicare reimbursement, it will provide the user with extended comfort while aiding to prevent pressure sores. This cushion also aids in wound care treatment. EquaGel Adjustable Protector Cushion is a dry-polymer gel, almost rubbery to the touch. It has unbelievable tensile and compression strength and incredible durability; but these are not what make EquaGel special. Its most amazing feature is the column buckling. Column buckling refers to the way EquaGel behaves under weight. Each wall of gel is capable of supporting only a light load. When that threshold is exceeded, the wall of gel buckles into the hollow area between walls and passes the weight to the surrounding walls for support. This “buckling and weight-passing” happens instantly and repeatedly until the maximum surface area of pressing weight is evenly supported by largely equalized pressure (hence our name, EquaPressure). The peak pressure points of the ischial tuberosities and the coccyx/sacrum buckle into the EquaGel feeling almost as if they are free-floating within the cushion while the thighs and buttock of the user are supported. Sold as 1 single cushion.
